Indications/Uses
Prevention of pregnancy in case of sexually assaulted victims; known or suspected contraceptive failure, incorrect or emergency cases eg, condom leak, miscount safe period, IUD use failure, disregard of contraceptive inj or >3 days late of taking OCs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab as soon as possible w/in 72 hr after unprotected intercourse or known or suspected contraceptive failure.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be used for regular birth control; in women w/ vag bleeding. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Not for regular prevention of pregnancy. No efficacy for abortion & protection against STD; HIV infection. Abnormal symptom eg, lack of menstruation. Spotting for few days. Possibility of ectopic pregnancy. Slight glucose tolerance deterioration w/ increases in plasma insulin. Monitor diabetic women while on treatment. Not effective in terminating an existing pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, headache, dizziness; nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting; breast tenderness, dysmenorrhea, irregular menses, pelvic pain.
Drug Interactions
Decreased contraceptive efficacy & increased breakthrough bleeding w/ CYP450 inducers eg, barbiturates, bosentan, carbamazepine, felbamate, griseofulvin, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin, topiramate & St. John's wort. Reduced efficacy w/ HIV-PIs or NNRTIs.
